Following are some of the major Poorva karma – Preparatory Procedures – practised by Chaithanya Ayurveda.

Small herbal boluses (potlis) containing herbs are boiled and lightly pounded across the body

2 - How it works

Kizhi Ayurveda massage produces dry heat for aggravated Vata and vatakapha conditions.

3 - Benefits of Kizhi

Kizhi is useful for osteoarthritis, spondylosis, muscular cramps, obesity, swelling, diabetes, and low Back Pain.

Abhyanga


Abhyanga is gentle application of medicated oils and synchronised massage all over the body. Practised as a daily regime in Kerala. Helps to overcome early ageing of skin & hair, Reduces the rate of degeneration, Improves vision and eye health, increases longevity, Good for sound sleep. Usually done for 45 mts to 1 hr. Steam bath after the abhyanga is more beneficial.

Podikizi


A specialised massage & sudation by medicated bundles made up of herbal powders. This is more of a therapeutic application, but also used for detoxification purpose. Very effective in rheumatic conditions, joint inflammations etc.it is a preparatory procedure before the main karma.

Elakizi


Another form of bundle massage using herbal leaves mainly to make the bundle. Mainly used in post-traumatic aches, Low back ache, Arthritis, etc.

NjavaraKizhi


Njavarakizhi is the most effective and famous among the bundle massages. The preparation of the medicine used in the bundle is a 3 staged preparation. The Main ingredient is Shashtika, a special rice cultivated under extreme careful & scientific conditions. The treatment is highly used in hemi plegia, muscular dystrophy, rehabilitation of other neurological as well as loco motor disorders

Pizhichil


Apart from other sudations, in pizhichil, otherwise called Kayaseka, warm liquids (either oil, decoctions or even medicated milk) are used for doing the treatments. Usually done for 7-14 days and is used in reducing the spasm of muscles

Siro Dhara


It is pouring of Luke warm medicated oil on the forehead as an uninterrupted stream. Usually done for 30-45 mts. Useful in the management of migraine, tension head ache, stress, insomnia, and other psychosomatic illnesses.

Takra Dhara


Specially prepared buttermilk, processed with medicines & herbal decoctions is poured on the forehead. Done continuously for 30-45 mts . Mainly used in skin diseases like psoriasis, eczema and other psycho somatically triggered skin lesions. Also useful in anxiety disorders.

Kati Vasthy


Local retention of warm oil in the affected spine area for quite some time. Used in the treatment of Low Back Ache, Lumbar Spondylosis, Intervertebral disc prolapse and other ortho- neuro involvement around the Lumbo- Sacral Spine. Duration and frequency is varied accordingly.

Lepanam


External application of medicines in the form of paste locally. Helps to reduce pain & inflammatuion and swelling. Widely used as a therapeutic method in Low Back Ache, Osteo Arthritis, Frozen Shoulder (Peri Arthritis or Adhesive Capsulitis of Shoulder). When applied with medicines with cosmetic properties, improves the glow of the facial skin. Also applicable in Skin diseases, insect bites and allergic manifestations of skin.

Pichu


Local Oil application in a milder form. Oil applied on a soaked cotton and applied on the affected area for longer period. Effective in muscular pain and sprains. Is applied on head, especially in kids in the management of developmental disorders, autism and cerebral palsies

Siro Vasthy


Oil retention on the head for longer duration. Useful in Cerebro vascular attacks, Facial palsy, hemiplegia and other neurological disorders. Usually done for 30-45 minutes daily, increasing the duration by 5- 10 minutes every day till reaches an optimum duration.

Udvarthanam


A special body massage using herbal powders. Done in the direction opposite to that of abhyanga. Highly effective in the treatment of obesity. Also used in the management of hemiplegia.
